It's been a while, but I'm glad the sky cleared up today so that I could enjoy a nice ride through the park. I was reminded of the fact that it was a while since I was riding pretty slow. I really need to get more often.
It was nice seeing the ocean though. Even though it's the cold San Francisco ocean. I just thought about how lucky we are to live in an area that has a ton of geographical variety. Urban, forestry, beach, suburbs, rural, etc.
I like the bay area...
I had planned to go on a bike ride today, Sunday morning, before the world cup. But yesterday was such a beautiful (and warm!) day in San Francisco that I just couldn't resist the temptation to venture out a bit early.
Besdies commuting (and a Critical Mass), I hadn't really gotten a chance to cycle around the city at all for fun. I have a road bike, and frankly a road bike isn't the most fun through the potholes and traffic lights I must go through to get to SOMA.
My ride yesterday though, reminded me of why I had a road bike.
It was a leisurely 17 or so miles starting from the panhandle, through GG Park up to the Presidio. The presidio was an awesome ride -- truly reminded me of all my hometown rides through Hillsborough. Got to see 2 awesome vista points (from which photos are attached). The immingrant overlook was especially surpsied me because I never saw a view like that from anywhere in San Francisco before -- it was breathtaking.
Ended up going down by the marina along the water to Fort Mason, and then back the same way. There was a good deal of excitement coming back up through the presidio as the Avon Breast Cancer walk was going on, so I enjoyed doing a little cheering on my ride back the apartment.
Lots of fun, indeed. Will definitel be going on more recreational rides throughout San Francisco. Hopefully soon I can make the trek across the Golden Gate and into the North Bay as well.
