So last wekeend, I took a trip to the weekly Santana Row exotic car meet. I actually caravaned with Mark in the 911 Turbo. It was actually nice taking 280 south of San Mateo since I haven't gone that way in ages.
There was a pretty good showing of cars that day-- didn't take all that many photos but I thought it'd be fun to select a few with a theme-- the rear ends of some of the fastest cars there. Note that I missed out on a few Diablo, Viper and Corvette rear ends, but just use your imagination for those.
Enjoy!
1. Noble GTO-3R -- this is a twin-turbocharged V6 outputting 340hp in a car that weighs lighter than an Enzo.
2. Aston Martin DB9 - super luxurious V12 pushing 450hp.
3. RUF GT2 - So a regular GT2 is pushing 483hp. RUF brought this one to about 720hp. Chew on that for a moment.
4. Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale - 425 hp and 0-60 in 4.1s. The challenge is about 30 hp more powerful and 250 lbs lighter than a standard 360 Modena.
5. Shelby Cobra - Classic muscle. These things vary in power but you can be certain it is ridiculous.
6. Lamborghini Gallardo - About 520hp. Not my fave Lambo, but they are eyeturners. The bail bond biz must pay handsomely.
7: That's one of 3 Porsche GT3RS at the meet (which makes it about 1% of all that exist) and a Ferrari F430. The GT3RS is EXTREMELY rare. 415hp but an absolute engineering marvel. The F430 is such an amazing car. A V8 pushing 483hp and oh, what an interior.
Went to my first car meet since I got my W203. A few online boards threw an all-euro meet in San Leandro so thought I'd go to check it out. It sure was hot out - my thermo caught it at 88 degrees.
Only about 4 or 5 benzes, but we represented a bit. I realized I need to buy a few toys this summer still.
The majority of cars out there were E46 M3s and Audis. I got Mark and his dad to bring their 911 Turbo, which turned a few heads. There was also a GT3, but you got to love the sound of a turbo.
Was definitely fun though. I miss those car meets.
Saturday night marked a rare occassion in which the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge was completely closed. We actually were driving back to SF from Concord during the closure and it felt a bit eery knowing that there was no traffic going the opposite direction.
Digression: I was reminded of a drive up I-5 from Los Angeles and a stormy day. Driving nothbound, we saw 3 overturned semis on the southbound side. It was dark, and there was absolutely no southbound traffic due to the freeway being closed. Quite eery.
In any case, one thing that threw me off driving back on the Bay Bridge over the weekend were all of the lane diversions back in San Francisco. They were forcing everyone to take a detour through downtown. Well during today's morning commute, this caused mad chaos.
Luckily, I took the subway to Powell and then walked to work from Market. On those few blocks there were an amazing amount of cars. It was impossible to miss. I was walking faster than traffic. Total gridlock. I was so happy I wasn't in a car today. I snapped that photo of the freeway off ramp while I was waiting at a crosswalk, but that photo definitely doesn't do the severity of the congestion problem this morning any justice.
