How many places have you lived in your life?
I usually consider the following 4 places as places I have lived in so far:
- Currently (and for the last few months), I'm living in San Francisco (Upper Haight), the city we all know and love.
- For the vast majority of my growing up, it has been San Mateo (Baywood), right down the peninsula. This would be my hometown.
- For the other part of my growing up, although I never permanently lived there, I did spend an aggregate of practically a year and a half in Bangkok (Ekamai).
- And last but not least, I spent 5 years (college included) in Los Angeles (Westwood).
And I put the neighborhoods in parantheses since I think it's very hard to generalize a perception of an entire city. Especially big cities. Neighborhoods make all the difference.
What did you do this weekend?
Got really sore.
Friday, probably the only non physically exhausting day of the weekend was spent going to an art opening at YBCA. Some good pieces, but not nearly my favorite show. Some very interesting elements to it. From there, spent the rest of the night hanging out in the mission.
On Satrurday, we picked up a new bicycle for Charm. After we picked up the bike, we decided to go on a short little ride around the city so she could start getting used to city driving. Well a short little ride turned into quite a longer one. From SOMA, we hit the embarcadero, through the craziness that is tourist season at Pier 39, braved the winds along Aquatic Park, stopped for lunch and a little Sports Basement action in the Marina, and then through the hills of the Presidio to Sea Cliff, detouring through the Richmond, cutting through Golden Gate Park back to our apartment. Yea, all in all a bit more than we bargained for.
Spent Saturday night in San Mateo - wow, 70 degree nights are a missed luxury.
Sunday was all about the Ultimate game we had planned. It was a good turnout of about 15 people. And it was harcore. Must have been touching 90 degrees and it was intense. About 2 hours of sprinting, diving (which I have a scrape to prove) and blocking. Yea, I love that game.
After that, cooled off at a friend's house while playing a game of pool. Not as refreshing a swimming pool, but fun nonetheless.
And today, I'm constantly reminded of the weekend due to my entire body being sore. I must be getting old. Or out of shape.
So it looks like we're going to have a pick-up ultimate frisbee game on Sunday down in San Mateo (where it is supposed to be 86 degrees) around 1pm.
We play every now and then, but this will be the first game of the year. Thought I'd through out an invite to all my loyal VOX readers -- if you want to give it a shot, let me know!
It's a really fun game, and quite the workout.
Last night was the annual Wine Walk through downtown San Mateo. What
a great way to kick off the summer. You buy a wine glass, and then get
to walk into all the different merchants--tasting wine and sampling
various appetizers. A lot of people come out and everybody has fun.
It's actualy been a little while since I've been down to San Mateo so
it was a pretty crazy feeling being down there. Everything seems so
much quieter than SF, that's for sure. But it was my 'hood for the
majority of my life so still definitely had that neighborhood feel to
it.
Fun times, fun times.
